Nine-year-old Eleanor Marshall hasn’t had the easiest ride in life, so Satan’s Little Helper decided to organise some quality time in the saddle to help the young animal lover celebrate her birthday
Eleanor, who was born with several challenging conditions, including limited upper body strength, has always loved animals. Her kind spirit extends to helping raise money for the local soup kitchen and she even sacrificed her Christmas presents last year in favour of putting together a care package for the Salvation Army store in Porirua. To help celebrate her ninth birthday, Satan’s Little Helper organised a party for Eleanor and her friends at Thompson’s Horse Centre, with plenty of HELL pizza on hand to feed the hungry young riders. Eleanor says they all had a lot of fun. “I got to ride the biggest horse and we all pretended to be cowgirls and cowboys when we rode around the farm. We had lots of yummy food and mummy made me a My Little Pony cake – it was tasty!” she says. Her mother Joanne says that as well as the sheer joy of it, horse riding is also physically beneficial for Eleanor. “Because of her condition, she’s limited in what activities and sports she can do without feeling pain. Horse riding actually helps her build up her strength because of the way you have to sit,” says Joanne. “All the kids really enjoyed themselves and it was awesome to see.” Eleanor can look forward to horsing around again in the near future, as Satan’s Little Helper organised some extra lessons at Thompson’s to help her further develop her strength – and simply enjoy herself!
